An interesting, romanticized work of “a plain, hardworking everyday doctor.” In addition to his general discussion on the life of a practicing physician, Barlow treats bacteriology, preventive medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, and women’s issues (including women doctors). The son of two doctors, Barlow (1847-1907), the fourth physician in his family, attended the Cincinnati College of Medicine. A Freemason, Barlow was also one of the founders of the Crawford County Medical Society.
