Ownership inscription on half-title., Early edition of this charming collection of four poems on the subject of health and longevity by the Scottish physician and poet Armstrong (1709-79). The author attempts to enlighten the lay public through verse to the importance of general fitness, vitality and therapeutics. The four books speak of air, diet, exercise and the passions. Originally printed in 1744, this work became very popular and went through many editions.
