Hale with his signature dated New York, April, 1915, and his notation that this book was a gift from Prof. Wills (?)., First edition. This was the first publication of the Ernest Kempton Adams Fund for Physical Research at Columbia University. Bjerknes (1862-1951), Norwegian physicist and pioneer in modern meteorology, first worked in Bonn as Hertz' assistant on electrical resonance, important in the development of radio. He later worked on applying hydrodynamic and thermodynamic theories to atmospheric and hydrospheric conditions in order to predict future weather conditions. He became a professor at the University of Bergen where he set up a geophysical institute.An excellent copy with all of the plates in perfect condition.
