DESCARTES, RENE. De Homine Figuris et latinitate donatus a FlorentioSchuyl, Inclytae Urbis Syvae-Ducis Senatore, & ibidem Philosophiae Professore. Leiden Ex Officicina Hackiana 1664
4to (204 x 152 mm). 2nd Edition. Contemporary vellum missing front paste down. Collation: [36] 1-123 (113- 123 numbered as 112-121) [1,Nota] [4] + 10 engraved plates, two of which have overlays. This is an uncut copy with general text and figures quite clean and bright.
This work is often referred to as the first book on physiology, although with some conjecture. Other authors often copied the fine copper engravings. Descartes influence on medicine was somewhat limited but his systematic treatment of his subject reflects the methodical mind of this mathematician and philosopher.
