BOCCONE, PAOLO. Icones & Descriptiones Rariorum Plantarum Siciliae, Melitae, Galliae, & Italiae. London: Robert Scott, 1674. 4to (227 x 173 mm).
Modern full calf with new end papers. [16] 1-96 pp + 52 engravings in text numbered 1-52. Fourteen (14) plates with early coloring and covered with albumen.
This copy is a variant with Robert Scott as publisher but with dedication to Charles Hatton who paid for its publication after convincing Robert Morison to edit the manuscript. The plates are quite elegant and the coloring adds to their beauty and makes this a wonderful book describing the plants of Italy, Sicily, France... Boccone was an Italian naturalist who traveled extensively and collected plants in different countries. (Cleveland, 251; Nissen 179; Pritzel 859; Henrey 1.14).
