[MAWSON, SIR DOUGLAS.] Australian Antarctic Expedition 1911-1914 under the Leadership of Sir Douglas Mawson: Scientific Reports. Adelaide and Sydney: Government Printers, 1916- 1947
Comprising 91 individual fascicles in original wraps for 94 parts of reports. There is minor browning to edges and occasional chipping of covers, odd volume with staple marks. This and unusual and quite scarce complete set in excellent condition. There are over 4,000 pages of text, numerous plates, maps and text illustrations. The publications are separated into three groupings: Series A. Geography, Oceanography, Geology; Series B. Terrestial Magnetism, Meterology; Series C. Zoology and Botany. In all there were ten (10) volumes for the entire publication, which was separated into the different Series each of which had separate fascicle issues. All the fascicles are present in the collection offered here.
This is a fine collection of the scientific findings from Mawson’s exploration of Antarctica where he nearly lost his life. The publication period extended over 31 years from 1916 to 1947. According to Renard, this is “A massive compilation of results from one of the most methodical and scientifically oriented Antarctic explorations, well illustrated, and written by leading scientists of the day, wherever located.” (Rosove, 218).
