The fifth edition. 8vo (19.7 x 12.2 cm) Contemporary calf with new back. Collation: [8], 332, [4] p. Fifth edition of first part and third edition of remaining two parts and supplement. In four parts, each with a separate title page dated 1744, but with continuous pagination; part(pt) 1 title page bears edition statement: "The fifth edition, corrected"; pts. 2 and 3: "The third edition, corrected"; pt. 4 (supplement): "The third edition, with large additions." Publisher's advertisements: p. [8] of first group. Includes index. Contemporary calf with renewed spine. Spine with raised bands and plain panels. Title is in gilt on original leather label with partial loss that only affects gilt borders and edge of “L” in title. There are ink marginalia in text, index, and on rear end papers. These are notes made by a previous owner to locate specific topics in the text marked by pencil or ink dashes in margin. The front free end paper and 16 p. advertisements at end are missing. The text is generally free and stains. In general this is a very clean copy in contemporary calf and new spine.
