8vo (21 x 13 cm). Ex Libris. Original half leather on marble boards. with blind-stamped plant and floral pattern. Published in: Archives de Physiologie de Thérapeutique et D’Hyginène; no. 1, janvier 1854. Collation: [7] 8-376 p. including 7 folding tables. Spine is separated into panels by tooled horizontal borders. The title of memoir is stamped in gilt in an upper panel. Some wear to ends of spine and corners. Marble pattern on cover has blind-stamped plant and floral pattern in relief to make a very attractive appearance when reflection is viewed at an angle. Minor foxing to end papers and first few pages in front and rear of text block. Some internal foxing is also present but generally at edges of page(s). Library stamp present on half title and title pages. Paper imperfection has been printed over on page 305. Ink correction of printed word present in margin on p.290.

PROVENANCE: Inscribed and signed by both authors: “A Monsieur/ Le Professeur Stepan Bey/ à Constantinople/ homage des auture/ Docteur Homolle TA Quevenne.” This is a very scarce work by Augustine Eugène Homolle who was the first scientist/physician to isolate amorphous digitalin in 1845. The present work is divided into two parts following a brief history of discovery of digitalin: 1. Chemical and pharmaceutical properties of digitalin; 2. Physiological and therapeutic apects and uses of digitalin. This a scarce presentation copy. Only one copy listed in American Book Prices Current, which sold in 1976 as an inscribed copy. (Garrison & Morton, 1850; Schmidt, p.129 [isolation of digitalin in 1845].
