LONGOMONTANUS (SEVERIN), CHRISTEN SØRENSEN. Caput tertium lib. primi de Aboluta Mensura Rotundi Plani ab authore Aicti, & illustratum Unà cum Elencho Cyclometriae J. Scaligeri & Appendice, de Deffectu Canonis Trigonometrici sub hujus initium, ubi Circulo ritèmensurando, duntaxat inservieret. Hauniae (Copenhagen): Literis Martzanianis, 1646
4to. Original off print unbound. 73-96 p. [24] with woodcut diagrams. This is the first appearance on trigonometry written to answer a problem posed by the Dutch humaist Joseph Scaliger ( 1540-1609) in his Cyclometricxa elementa duo (Leiden, 1617). The curious pagination is the result of the author having had published another related work at Amsterdam in 1644 (“Rotundi in plano, seu circuli absoluta mensura duabus libellis comprehensa”) during a stay in that city.
The present work was separately published (Poggendorff also notes this) in Copenhagen two years later but is complete in it. The only other copy known is in the Danish National Library, which also has a copy of the first work. The KvK locates only one other copy of the ”Rotundi in plano” in the Niedersachsische Staats-und Univ.
