This is a scarce first edition of the 17th century travels of Meister, a German soldier and botanist, recording locations he visited as an employee of the Dutch East India Company in Japan and the Far East and collections made, particularly botanical. This voyage allowed Meister not only to collect plants of the orient, but to study the Japanese language for which there are included two plates, one folding, at the end of the work which illustrate Japanese characters.
